Taming the Frizz

Happy Monday!

So I’m going off-topic today because I really want to share some awesome products I am using to tame my frizzy hair.  It’s a year-round problem here in Texas. It may be seasonal in a lot of places as well.  But, I think this group of products could help with the static cling hair issue. BTW, when I was living up North I would rub a dryer sheet on my hair to help with the static issue.

Anyway,  I googled “frizzy hair taming products” a few weeks ago.  One of the “highly” recommended group of products  are pictured here.. The Loreal Smooth Intense shampoo and conditioner plus the Smooth Intense Ultimate straightening balm. I also bought, as a result of a review, the John Frieda Frizz Ease hairspray.

Guess what?  Waste of money.  These did nothing for my frizz issues.

I finally went to Sally Beauty Supply  to ask the people that work there.  This one very nice woman pointed out the ION products.  She said these were on the lower end of the price range (yay!) but really work. she said if they didn’t work I could return them.  So, I figured what the heck, right?

I can honestly say that from day one I noticed a HUGE difference!  It wasn’t a fluke either because we had some wicked humid days last week and my hair did not frizz up.

So, if you are in need of some products to help tame your frizzy hair, I suggest you try these.  By the way, I am not being compensated for anything.  I bought all the products a retail price.

I really love how smooth my hair is after blow drying.  I used to have to use a straightener every time.  Now, I can leave my hair with a little fullness and still not get frizzy.  I have so many products that were a big waste of money.  I’m sure you can relate to this. Most of us have a stash under the sink of products that don’t work; but we just can’t seem to throw them away.  Or they end up in the guest bathroom, lol.  Let them deal with frizz.

Oh and another thing that makes my hair really shiny after coloring it is this Color gloss duo.  I always use the clear, but they do have hint of color options.  You apply it just like you would your hair color.  It really does penetrate better if you use heat for 20 minutes. You can find color gloss products at Sally’s also.  Many hair dressers use the exact same products as an up-sell if your hair is dull.  Except they will charge you upwards of $30-$40 on top of your color.  I buy the small gloss bottle for about $3 and the developer is about $8 or $9 The developer is you enough for about 4 applications.  So the next time you are only paying for the gloss. Major bargain.

I have on of those old fashioned hair bonnet dryers my mom used to have back in the day. It’s perfect for the color gloss application.

Do you remember these?  They are actually really useful. Mine was about $25 and I’ve had it for nearly ten years.  My daughter used to laugh at me using it when she was young.

Well, this has been my “two cents” for the day.  Let me know if you try any of these or find products that work even better!  I’d love to know.  Enjoy your week.

Vanilla Love Organics

Happy Daylight Savings!

Last week on Instagram I told you about a new company I have partnered with.  Leslie Dominguez owns Vanilla Love Organics.  She is based here in Texas. She sent me a few products to try before our joint giveaway.

I can honestly say my new favorite face wash is the Honey Coconut Cleanser and Gentle Exfoliator. This smells absolutely heavenly and is incredibly moisturizing.  Great for mature skin like mine that tends to be dry.

Next is the Young Again serum that I have been using under my eyes and around my mouth area (where wrinkles really show your age.) It has a subtle hint of Vanilla.  I have linked each item to Leslie’s Etsy Shop so you can see the ingredients of each product. I’ve only been using this for about five days, but it is starting to make my wrinkles less prominent.

She also sent Muscle Ache Be Gone Balm.  I have lower back pain from a car accident about five years ago and once in a while I get an ache on my lower back.  I tried this balm the other day and combining it with an ice pack was better than just the ice pack.  So, yup this is some good stuff.

Finally is the Lavender and Chamomile body balm. This comes in a tin so I find it works well on the backs of my hands.  They are also very dry.  The balms come with a little spatula that you will need to use if you are going to apply this balm to a large are of your body.

The packaging is beautiful by the way. This tins easily fit in your purse or cosmetic bag for travel. Are you following Leslie? Her Instagram account is @VanillaLoveOrganics

I’m so excited to be partnering with Leslie. We all need to support small businesses.  I highly recommend you take a look at her Etsy shop.

The Best Planner Ever

Hello friends!

I am really excited to introduce you to one of my new collaborators.  Jennifer Dawn, a highly successful business woman, a certified business coach and author.  There is no doubt in my mind that she clearly has a proven method of helping people get organized both personally and in business.

We decided that I will follow her proven methods for getting organized, setting goals and creating my vision for the future.

So often we end up living in the moment. We live for that day at work.   We come home after a long day and do what?  Do you do something for yourself every day?  I certainly don’t. Do you grab your journal and look at your goals?  The future you are working toward?  Maybe it’s just me.  But, it has been so long since I’ve had any goals or visions written down that I have no idea what I am striving for.  At this moment I am focusing on getting my daughter through college.  This means maintaining a job with a large salary so I can meet our financial needs.

We may have jobs that we stay at because the pay is great and the benefits are too.  But what if that position doesn’t fulfill our passions, hopes and dreams.

Many years ago I created a Vision Board.  They were really popular about twenty years ago.  At least that is when I created my first one.  I had cut out pictures of homes I loved and decor inspirations, clothing styles I admired, and words of inspiration. I also added photos of places I wanted to visit.

Interestingly enough, a few of the things on that vision board actually came to fruition.  I was longing for a beautiful home with soaring ceilings on a lake with a pool.  I also had photos of Egypt, the pyramids and the Nile river.  I also added pictures of wedding dresses and venues. I was still single at thirty.

Less than a year later I was married to a man who was half Lebanese and half Egyptian.  Within a year we had a beautiful baby girl.  The following year we went to Egypt to visit his family.  What are the odds??  Then just one year later we moved from Boston to Tampa and bought a beautiful home on a lake with soaring ceilings and a pool.  That was really amazing. My point in telling you this is I kept an eye on the prize.  I looked at that vision board every day.  I wrote in my journal all the things I wanted to do, the kind of person I wanted to be.  My vision board also included pictures of gorgeous thin women.  Just six months before I met my husband I was laid off from my job.  With nothing to do I started working out every day.  Within a few months I had dropped about 20 pounds.  This is a lot on a 5′ 2″ woman.  I felt awesome again.  I loved looking at myself in the mirror.

I honestly believe this is why I met my husband.  No, not because only thin people get dates.  It was about my state of mind.  I was clear, determined, confident, and well, really “putting myself out there.”

After the first few years of my marriage I felt as though I was just going day by day with no goals or accomplishments to aspire to.

In 2007 we moved to Dubai because, well, we thought it would be fun.  My then husband had been completely Americanized since he had gone to college in the U.S. and lived here for more than half his life.  But, things changed when we got to Dubai. Over the next two years he started to change. He took on his middle eastern way of thinking, embracing the culture and a new way of life.  I truly believed this was something our marriage would not survive.

Just two years later I returned to the U.S. with my daughter. We never saw him again.  Not by our choice but by his.  He cheated and then married that woman and had a son.  In some cultures men will leave their old family behind.  (Not all men, don’t get me wrong.)

For the last few years work has been about money.  How can I earn enough to support my daughter and myself.  Then there is college.  Good Lord that is expensive. I have felt a longing for inspiration in my personal and professional life.  I need a goal, a purpose a “Vision.”

At what seems to have been just the right time, I came across Dawn’s web site “The Best Planner Ever” and I just knew I needed this system.

In the coming weeks I will be updating you all on my progress and I would love to have you join me in this new way of “being.”

Be sure to follow me on Instagram.  Jennifer and I are going to give away a planner to one lucky person.  If you can’t wait for that, here is her web site to get started right away. Save 15% off your planner with code: KIWI15.

I would love your feedback, comments, words of inspiration. Feel free to leave a comment or email me. Success is Planned!
